Castle AGM and 2009 Opening

The Friends of Oystermouth Castle AGM took place on Tuesday 11th March.

Friends were treated to an excellent display of slides by Roger Parmiter, showing some of the more unusual aspect of the castle, and some fascinating potential avenues of investigation when some archaeology gets done!

It was estimated that over there were over 4000 visitors to the castle last season, with most people considering that the bad weather this year probably meant that this was lower than average.

An update was given on the conservation works and funding for the new visitor centre.  Work on this will start next year.  The proposals looked very exciting with the promise of being able to access the upper floors of the chapel block.

The acquisition of resources for the existing visitor centre was also discussed and Roger will be compiling a list of suggestions.  (Please do add comments here on what you’d like to see on display!)

The opening date for this year (5th April) was announced, and the rota distributed.
